Lidl is currently celebrating after dominating the 2015 Grocer Own Label Awards in London. The retailer beat off stiff competition to be named overall Champion, taking home 13 Gold medals and a record 23 Silver awards for its own label products, including eight medals for products produced exclusively for the retailer by local Irish suppliers.

Now in their tenth year, the annual Grocer Food & Drink Own Label Awards recognise the best in supermarket own label products. The final results were revealed after a vigorous judging process, which comprised of a consumer testing panel followed by an expert testing on each product.

Following a record number of entries this year, Lidl stormed home with Gold medals being awarded to five products which are sourced/produced in Ireland, including its Deluxe Garlic & Pepper Marinated Duck Breast Fillets, produced by Silver Hill Foods, based in Emyvale, Co Monaghan; Deluxe Sicilian Lemonade, produced by Glenpatrick Spring Water, based in Clonmel, County Tipperary; Meadow Fresh Mediterranean Style Salad Bowl, produced by Willowbrook Foods, based in Killinchy, Co. Down; Deluxe Irish Farmhouse Layered Strawberry Yogurt, produced by Irish Yogurts, based in Clonakilty, West Cork; and Deluxe Irish Red Pepper & Jalapeno Relish, which is produced for the retailer by The Scullery, based in Nenagh, County Tipperary.

Other winning products which are sourced or produced in Ireland include Lidl’s Inismara Cajun Salmon Darnes, produced by Keohane Seafoods, based in Kinsale, County Cork; Glensallagh Carved Roasted Turkey Breast Slices, produced by Green Farm Foods Ltd. in Rathowen, Co. Westmeath and Heat, Eat and Enjoy Creamy Tomato & Basil Soup, produced by Glanbia, based in County Kilkenny.

Speaking about Lidl’s success at the Grocer Own Label Awards, Linda Fitzgerald, own brand manager, Lidl, said: “This is a great reward for all of the hard work that our local buying team places on sourcing and producing the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices. As a retailer, we are committed to supporting local suppliers and producers, currently working with over 180 Irish suppliers across various categories, a number which is growing each year. These awards help to reinforce our message that low cost does not mean having to compromise on quality.”
