SuperValu has thanked customers for bringing to its attention a text message scam that uses the retailer’s name to attempt to con customers into clicking a harmful link on their mobile phone.

The retailer also apologised to any customers inconvenienced by the fraudulent activity. SuperValu confirmed it was aware of the scam and asked customers to delete the message to stop their phone becoming infected by any malware.

“This is a scam and has not been sent from SuperValu,” a spokesperson said. “Please delete the messages and do not interact with them. SuperValu never sends out competitions by text, we are sorry you have been targeted. We thank you for bringing this to our attention.”
