Spar and the Tree Council have teamed up with  Irish illustrator Fatti Burke to launch the Spar National Tree Day Colouring Competition.

From this week, children can pick up a Fatti Burke illustrated colouring sheet in any Spar store nationwide and, by uploading a photo of their completed colouring sheet on Treeday.ie, be in with a chance of winning a Linkilonk Activity tube, Eco markers and a €15 Spar voucher to pick up some treats in their local store.

Burke, who hails from Co. Waterford, has been working as an illustrator since graduating from the National College of Art and Design in 2012 and has created several award-winning children’s books about Ireland and characters in Irish history with her father, John, a retired primary school teacher.

“I’m so delighted to be teaming up with Spar and the Tree Council on the Spar National Tree Day Colouring Competition” Burke said. “I grew up playing in the woods so it’s been lovely to revisit my childhood fascination with Irish trees, flora and fauna through these illustrations.”

Colin Donnelly, Spar sales director said: “We’re delighted to be collaborating with Kathi for this year’s Spar National Tree Day. Her eye-catching illustrations for the colouring competition offer children another way to engage with the campaign, connect with nature and understand the value trees bring to our communities.”

The Tree Council of Ireland, supported by Spar, is encouraging primary school children across the country to take part in Spar National Tree Day and plant one of 2,000 FREE Native Irish Holly tree saplings on Thursday, 6th October 2022.

“Spar National Tree Day is an opportunity for us all to take the time to connect with trees and appreciate the value they bring to our environment, as well as to our own physical and mental health” commented Eanna Ní Lamhna, President of the Tree Council of Ireland. “This year’s “Root for Nature” theme calls on children to get involved in helping the environment while also teaching them about the complex root system under the tree.”

To claim a free native Irish holly tree and to find out more about this year’s Spar National Tree Day and the colouring competition visit www.treeday.ie.
