Spar competition winners enjoy special Hike Life Under the Tree event
8 December 2023
Spar recently treated a special group of 60 competition winners to a special hike around the very popular scenic Ticknock Forest and Fairy Castle loop in the Dublin Mountains with Roz Purcell of The Hike Life.
The Hike Life Under the Tree event was part of Spar’s 60th birthday celebrations and garnered a terrific response from customers and emphasised the recent trend pointing towards Irish people seeking new ways to connect with nature and communities.
A second event brought together a group of 20 Spar retailers from across the country who joined in a bespoke 2.5 hour private hike in the Nire Valley, Co Waterford, led once again by Roz Purcell.
Upon completion of the hike, the retailers travelled to nearby Ballymacarbry, Co Waterford to visit a forestry plantation belonging to The Tree Council of Ireland, Spar’s current national charity partner.
The day’s activities concluded with the group of retailers planting hazel trees on the land, one of the many native Irish tree species that Spar has been planting this year. The retailer hike and tree planting activity is the final part in the year-long Spar Team Tree campaign which saw the brand plant 20,000 native Irish trees across the country this year and follows closely after Spar National Tree Day that took place in nationwide primary schools just last month.
Speaking about the retailer event, Spar sales director, Colin Donnelly, said: “We are delighted to continue our 60th anniversary celebrations at Spar by organising this special event that brings together Spar Retailers in a wonderful opportunity to get out in nature and enjoy our beautiful country. We are very connected with our fir tree logo and celebrating nature, as well as the people that are central to the Spar brand, is very close to our hearts.”
