Spar has announced Make-A-Wish as its new national charity partner for the next two years, vowing to raise up to €400,000 for the children’s charity. Fundraising will take place through collection boxes in more than 400 Spar stores nationwide, along with a donation on selected Spar Own Brand products and a number of key fundraising events.

Chosen by Spar retailers, Make-A-Wish children’s charity grants the wishes of children aged between three and 17 years living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Since 1992, Make-A-Wish Ireland has granted wishes for more than 2,500 brave children across the country.

All wishes granted always include the child’s parents, brothers and sisters, providing respite and memories of joy for the whole family.

Commenting on the new charity partnership, Colin Donnelly, Spar sales director, said the symbol group is proud to have Make-A-Wish as its new charity partner. “We hope that our support will continue to help improve the quality of the lives of the children helped by this fabulous charity,” Donnelly said. “Aside from our charity boxes in stores, we will also be making a regular donation from the sale of our Spar Own brand products and be involved in a number of fundraising events to raise as much funds as possible for Make-A-Wish.”

Spar retailers select a new charity partner every two years and will be supporting Make-A-Wish through to 2021. To kick off the charity partnership, Spar recently made an initial donation of €10,000 to Make-A-Wish Ireland.
