Ireland’s top retailers and brands gathered last night at Dublin’s Ballsbridge Hotel for the ShelfLife National C-Store Awards 2016. Now in its 16th year, the C-Store Awards are the only comprehensive and independently judged business accolades for the convenience store sector.

Together with returning master of ceremonies Marty Whelan, ShelfLife welcomed 350 guests from across the industry to present 35 awards, celebrating the industry’s finest stores and people in a diverse range of categories.

Publisher John McDonald, who presented the night’s main award, National Convenience Store of the Year 2016 to Spar store in Little Island, Co. Cork, said the 2016 C-Store Awards programme marked “a new watershed in Irish convenience retailing standards.

“The level of improvement, particularly in the smaller stores,” McDonald said, “illustrates just how hard retailers are working to give their customers great service and a quality shopping experience.”

Among the awards presented on the night was the special presentation of Convenience Champion of the Year 2016, which was presented to Tara Buckley, director general of RGDATA, which represents more than 4,000 independent family-owned grocery shops, convenience stores, forecourts and supermarkets across Ireland. Buckley was chosen for the award due to her tireless work advocating for store owners across the country in her role.
