Seven Irish start up food businesses have won the opportunity to showcase and sell their products at the BWG Trade Show, the one-day retail trade bonanza run by leading convenience operator BWG Foods. The suppliers will get exposure to over 1,000 retailers across the SPAR, EUROSPAR, MACE, Londis and XL retail brands at the event at Citywest on June 13.

To coincide with this year’s event, BWG Foods has created a brand new programme supporting Irish food innovation, in partnership with Dublin Food Chain. The seven chosen suppliers will also now become official listed suppliers of BWG.

Group Chief Executive of BWG Group, Leo Crawford said that due to Ireland’s thriving food scene, the group has seen some fantastic food innovation come through its new start-up programme. “The footprint of our business means we have a presence in villages, towns and cities all across Ireland,” Crawford said, “so we are delighted to be able to support local Irish suppliers, and to share with them our knowledge and experience of the retail food business.”

As part of the programme, which has been ongoing for several months, BWG Foods shortlisted fourteen suppliers, giving them the chance to pitch in a ‘Dragons’ Den’ style competition where it was whittled down to the final seven.

The winning group will join more than 200 indigenous and multinational suppliers at this year’s event, getting exclusive access to sell to local independent retailers who have a combined annual turnover of €2 billion.
