Revenue officers have seized approximately 11.4 million cigarettes at Dublin Port.

The seizure was made following routine risk profiling, with the assistance of detector dog Milo and the use of Revenue’s mobile X-ray scanner.

In a statement, Revenue noted that the contraband was discovered in a consignment declared as cardboard packaging, following a search of a trailer that had arrived on a vessel from Rotterdam.

Discovered brands 

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Lambert & Butler Silver’, ‘Superkings Blue’ and ‘Richmond’ have an estimated value of over €10.8 million representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €8.4 million.

Investigations are ongoing.

Ongoing operations 

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
