Consumers today expect convenience without compromise, and the healthy ready meals category is rising to meet that demand. From plant-based dishes to high-protein and calorie-conscious options, these meals are reshaping perceptions of convenience food.

Healthy ready meals are benefiting from growing consumer demand for products that fit into increasingly busy lifestyles while supporting health and wellness goals. Today’s shoppers are looking beyond traditional convenience foods, seeking options that deliver balanced nutrition, quality ingredients and clear on-pack health credentials.

This has driven innovation across the category, with manufacturers introducing meals that cater to a wide range of dietary preferences, including high-protein, low-calorie, vegetarian and plant-based options.

The market opportunity remains significant, with Statista forecasting that Ireland’s ready-to-eat meals market will reach approximately €480 million by 2029. As consumers continue to prioritise both convenience and wellbeing, retailers have a valuable opportunity to grow sales by stocking a diverse range of healthy ready meal solutions that meet evolving shopper expectations.

Clean Cut Meals partners with Gaelic Players Association and the GAA as Irish adults struggle to find time for meal planning

Clean Cut Meals becomes the Official GAA/ GPA Ready Meals Partner and will continue to support busy lifestyles across Ireland

Clean Cut Meals and the Gaelic Players Association (GPA), and the GAA recently announced a three-year partnership as new research reveals that over half of Irish adults struggle daily with meal planning, while 95% eat the same lunch multiple times each week.

The findings also show that the challenge extends to elite sport, with 74% of intercounty players citing lack of time as the biggest barrier to eating well.

Founded in Galway, Clean Cut Meals becomes the Official GAA/GPA Ready Meals Partner and will continue to support busy lifestyles across Ireland with its convenient, high-quality, nutritious ready-to-heat meals available in SuperValu and Centra stores nationwide.

Key research findings show:

• 74% of intercounty players say lack of time is the biggest barrier to eating well.

• 57% of adults struggle to decide what to eat for lunch daily or most days.

• Over 80% of intercounty players eat ready-to-heat meals as part of their diet.

• One in three adults decides on lunch on the spot with no planning.

The findings highlight that while both athletes and the public recognise the importance of eating well, time constraints are making it increasingly difficult to follow through. As a result, many players are turning to convenient options and demanding high standards in terms of nutrition and ingredient quality.

Clean Cut Meals offers chef-prepared, high-protein meals made with natural ingredients, providing a trusted and convenient solution without compromising on taste or nutritional value.

Commenting on the partnership, Clean Cut Meals co-founder Micheál Dyer said: “We’re delighted to come on board with the GAA/GPA as the Official Ready Meals Partner. We’re extremely proud to be a Guaranteed Irish company and of our connection to Gaelic Games.

“This research shows that many people are under real-time pressure when it comes to food. Even when you know what you should be eating, it’s not always easy to put that into practice.

“At Clean Cut Meals, we focus on providing tasty, nutritionally balanced meals that are high in protein and made with quality ingredients. Crucially, they’re designed for busy lives, giving people confidence in what they’re eating, without adding complexity to their day.”

GPA CEO Tom Parsons said: “The Gaelic Players Association are delighted to welcome Clean Cut Meals to the table as a supporter of inter-county players. While their financial backing will directly impact the welfare and development of GPA members, Clean Cut Meals’ expertise will also help us grow a very meaningful partnership, given that nutrition is a central element of elite sporting performance.”

Peter McKenna, GAA commercial director, said: “Clean Cut Meals is an exciting Irish success story, and we are very pleased to welcome them as an Official GAA/GPA partner. Their focus on quality, convenience and nutrition aligns strongly with the values and needs of our players and members.”

Fiid champions healthy ready meal revolution

Fiid range

The ready meal has had a quiet revolution. Where once the category meant processed ingredients, excessive salt, and meals eaten apologetically, today’s healthy ready meals are a genuine reflection of how modern consumers want to eat and live.

Demand is being driven by a generation of shoppers who refuse to choose between time and quality. Busy schedules haven’t lowered their standards; if anything, they’ve raised the bar. They want meals built around natural ingredients, nutrition and real flavour — and they want them ready in minutes. The brands responding to this shift are doing something genuinely exciting: making convenience food that people are proud to eat.

Plant-based innovation is accelerating across the aisle, with bold global flavours and restaurant-quality textures replacing the bland, beige offerings of years past. High-protein formats are capturing the fitness-conscious mainstream, not just the gym bag crowd and calorie-conscious ranges are moving away from the language of restriction, reframing portion awareness as something positive rather than punishing.

Fiid sits right at the heart of this shift: a plant-based brand and certified B Corp, built on the belief that convenience shouldn’t mean compromise. Using simple, natural ingredients and delivering the kind of depth you’d expect from a home-cooked dish, Fiid spans a versatile range of flavours and formats that work equally well as a standalone lunch, a speedy dinner or a base to build on. Crucially, as an ambient product, Fiid lives in the cupboard, no planning required, no defrosting, no short shelf life. It’s simply there when you need it.
