Pettitt’s SuperValu opened the doors to a brand-new SuperValu store in Bray on 10 June with a number of surprises planned for locals to mark their arrival in the seaside town.
The Bray store will be the seventh SuperValu store for the long-standing Wexford family business, and it is described as a state-of-the-art supermarket which has seen an investment of €4m.
Already playing its part in Bray’s local economy with up to 80 staff employed in the new SuperValu store, the Pettitt family and SuperValu have many plans to establish themselves in support of the community.
The family recently announced a partnership with Wicklow GAA, whereby Pettitt’s will sponsor the Wicklow Minor Hurling & Football championship for 2021, highlighting their support for grassroots development.
The team at Pettitt’s SuperValu Bray will be running a number of competition giveaways around the opening, including SuperValu vouchers, tickets to the nearby Powerscourt Distillery, and two annual Gold Finch passes to Kilruddery House & Gardens.
For the opening day, over 1,000 coffee vouchers were distributed for cult Irish coffee brand Frank and Honest and redeemable at the new Barista counter in-store.
Greystones natives, The Happy Pear twins will also be in attendance on June 10th for the opening day, showcasing their offering, and will also be raffling a luxury hamper to one lucky customer.
The store is located on the Southern Cross Road, just off the N11 and close to the M50, DART and Dublin Bus routes. Pettitt’s have confirmed that they will also provide Click and Collect dedicated car parking spaces for city commuters, in addition to
SuperScan technology which allows customers to track their spend and pack as they go, a service that remains in place even as the pandemic restrictions begin to ease over the coming months.
With a history of retailing in Ireland since 1946, the Pettitt family brand currently employs over 600 team members across their existing SuperValu stores in Kildare (Athy), Wexford (St. Aidan’s, Enniscorthy, Gorey, Quaywest) and Wicklow (Arklow), and have said they are excited to bring their renowned customer service and quality food produce to the locals in Bray.
“We are very excited to bring our many years of experience, expertise, and family values to our new Pettitts SuperValu store in Bray,” said store owner Cormac Pettitt. “The welcome we have received from the local community has been amazing. We have built a great team of 80 staff for the store, and I know they cannot wait to open the doors on June 10th to serve the people of Bray and the surrounding area.”
“Coming to the new 20,000 square foot store are Pettitt’s award-winning in-house brands, such as Pettitt’s Bakery, a Blas Na hÉireann award winner for its amazing sourdough bread,” he added. “Since 2015, our Pettitt’s Kitchen and Pettitt’s ‘Cook at Home’ ranges have included home-made traditional and ethnic meals, also made from scratch by our dedicated team of chefs and butchers, six days a week using natural and wholesome ingredients. We also have our very own Pettitt’s Florist creating bouquets for all occasions. It’s about using high quality, fresh produce and ensuring we have outstanding service and value, to cater for customers of all ages and ethnicities with a wide variety of multicultural cuisines.”
“At SuperValu, we believe in making communities better by caring for our environment,” added head of store development operations at SuperValu Michael Twohig. “From a sustainability perspective, Pettitt’s new store in Bray is a shining example of the best that SuperValu has to offer and has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The store is fully equipped with eco-friendly LED lighting, using 60% less energy than standard lighting, while its refrigeration units will run on naturally occurring gases, saving 500 tonnes of CO2 per annum, the equivalent of planting 25,000 trees, compared to standard refrigeration gases. These measures will complement SuperValu’s ambitious sustainability targets which are focused on packaging and carbon emission reductions as part of our ambition to positively impact the world we live in.
“As Ireland’s leading food retailer, SuperValu is wholly committed to supporting the local communities in which it operates, and as such, is proud to support two of Ireland’s best loved competitions in SuperValu TidyTowns and the GAA Football Senior All-Ireland Championship,” he added. “In addition, we believe in inclusive communities and work closely with AsIAm to make our stores, towns, and villages more Autism Friendly. As a community retailer, we take great pride in making a lasting positive impact everywhere we have a presence. With our new position at the heart of the locality, SuperValu looks forward to playing its role in contributing to the thriving community in Bray through the new Pettitt’s store.”
