Online wine retailer, FromVineyardsDirect has launched a dedicated service for the Republic of Ireland. Based in Dublin, the venture is the brainchild of publisher David Campbell and wine impresario Esme Johnstone, selling “quality wines at affordable prices” directly to consumers.

Previously operating only in the UK, the online merchant supplies from small and artisan producers not imported by larger wine distributors. With fewer overheads FromVineyardsDirect.ie offers substantial savings on many top producers from Bordeaux, The Loire, Champagne, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley as well as Spain and Italy.

The company says it has a very “hands-on attitude”, maintaining a close relationship with customers.Johnstone, who founded his first wine venture, Majestic Wine, in 1981, plans to organisie wine evenings with the producers for the company’s new Irish customer base, an interactive innovation which has proven particularly attractive to the internet shopping public. The company was short-listed for Best Online Merchant at the Decanter World Wine Awards earlier this year.
