Musgrave NI will open 20 new stores and revamp 40 more in Northern Ireland, the company has announced. Part of the Musgrave Group, which operates the Centra, SuperValu and Mace symbol groups, Musgrave NI will spend an estimated £28 million on the project, and create approximately 500 new jobs. As well as the groups mentioned, Musgrave NI also operates the MarketPlace brand in Northern Ireland.
The Irish Times reports that Musgrave NI operations director Michael McCormack said the group’s results provide a solid platform for the company to grow its presence in the North. Last year the Musgrave Group reported pre-tax profits of €84.5 million across the island on a turnover of €3.9 billion.
“Our plans are ambitious but achievable,” McCormack said. “For us this is all about how we’ll realise our vision to redefine convenience in Northern Ireland.”
Musgrave NI employs more than 1,500 people in Northern Ireland. McCormack added that the expansion plan is intended to be a combination of acquiring new independent retailers to join the group, taking over existing stores and investing in brand new sites.
