Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney has been presented with the prestigious Blas Na hEireann Producers Champion Award 2015 by celebrity chef, Neven Maguire and chair of Blas na hEireann, The Irish Food Awards, Artie Clifford.

This award follows a survey conducted by Blas na hEireann of over 1,000 Irish food and drink producers asking  them who in their opinion had done the most to promote Irish produce at home and abroad in the past year.  Over 70% of respondents cited Minister Coveney.

The Minister joins the inaugural Blas Producers’ Champion, Neven Maguire, who was awarded this accolade in 2014.

“I am delighted with this award,” said Minister Coveney. “But the real credit must go to the dedicated, talented producers who are making a real impact on the national and international stage. I wish them all the very best of luck at this year’s  Blas na hEireann Awards”.

This award kicks off the final judging of the 8th annual Blas na hEireann Awards, where over 500 of the finest food and drink products (from an initial 2500 entries) will be judged in a blind tasting by a panel of judges which will include renowned chefs and national and international food writers and buyers.

The winners of these prestigious, all-Ireland awards will be presented with their awards as part of the Dingle Food Festival on Saturday evening, 3 September 2015.
