One of the keys to success in business is diversification, and one operation currently living by that philosophy is McCormack Family Farms, this week moving forward with plans to expand in to the raw juice market after four decades in supplying fresh vegetables and herbs to businesses and retailers.

Following a €2.1m investment from Ulster Bank, the family-run business based in Co. Meath plans to launch a new brand by the name of Loose and Lively Beverages, which uses a newly-developed system that retains as much of the vegetables’ nutritional goodness as possible during the production process. According to reports, McCormack’s are currently in talks with a nationwide health food stockists and other retailers regarding the new brand.

McCormack’s was established in 1984 by Edward McCormack, who struck out on his own growing vegetables and selling them at Dublin’s iconic Smithfield Market. In 1998, Edward – in partnership with his son Stephen – expanded the business to include herbs and baby leaves, before moving in to retail in 2007. Today, they supply all the major retailers including Lidl, Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Super Valu.

Ulster Bank’s investement in McCormack’s Family Farm includes a range of facilities inlcuding funding for the company to expand and update its factory premises. “This deal is allowing us to expand our business significantly,” said Stephen McCormack, “into a new product range which has great potential for future growth.”
