Say Salud at Co Limerick’s Mustard Seed this November

The award-winning Mustard Seed restaurant in Ballingarry, Co Limerick, will celebrate Spanish wines this Thursday 21 November, as part of a special dining experience in collaboration with Taste of Dublin and Mastercard. The evening will feature a delectable six-course tasting menu by head chef Angel Pirev and his team, paired with wines from various Spanish vineyards courtest of Forrestal Wine Merchants and the Food and Wines from Spain campaign. According to the latest Irish Wine Market Report, Spanish wine is one of Ireland’s favourites – coming in third place after Chile and Australia.

Ireland’s Top Cheesemakers recognised at the 2019 CÁIS Irish Cheese Awards

The upcoming 2019 CÁIS Irish Cheese Awards is due to take place this coming Thursday November 7 at Cork’s Metropole Hotel, with winners to be commended during a lavish black-tie gala dinner. 2019 marks the eighth year of the biennial awards and CÁIS, the Association of Irish Farmhouse Cheesemakers, have seen the bar suitably raised thanks to over 200 entries from 50 Irish farmhouse cheese producers. This truly unique ceremony is exclusively dedicated to both artisan and large-scale cheese producers from all corners of Ireland, with competition stiffer than ever before as entrants go for gold.

Christmas time: Tesco Ireland celebrates poinsettia harvest

Uniplumo’s annual Poinsettia harvest has taken place, marking the beginning of the festive season. North Dublin-based Uniplumo is Ireland’s largest grower of Poinsettia and has been supplying Irish Poinsettia to Tesco for the past 22 years. With the countdown to Christmas officially on, Uniplumo is set to supply close to 85,000 Poinsettias for delivery to Tesco stores across Ireland between now and Christmas.

Waterford’s Mezze named finalist in Shop of the Year 2020

The Guild of Fine Food’s annual Shop of the Year awards has announced its finalists for 2020. Among the 36 independent retail outlets named, Mezze, a specialist shop selling middle eastern food and ingredients in Waterford, is among those in the running to win Specialist Food or Drink Shop. Mezze, which opened in June of this year, offers a selection of hard-to-find middle eastern herbs and spices alongside artisan foods from Ireland, will now undergo two further rounds of judging; an announced visit from one of the judges and a mystery shop carried out by Insight6. Shop of the Year 2020 will reach its finale on Monday 9 March.

St Pierre raises vital funds for Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund

The UK’s number one brioche brand, St Pierre, has helped raise €55,000 of funding for the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund (IGBF) by taking part in the Stocked Festival in September. Attended by people from across the grocery industry, the Stocked Festival featured food, music, comedy acts and more, and took place on the Orlagh Estate overlooking Dublin. “St Pierre is enjoying exponential growth in Ireland,” said Jeremy Gilboy, St Pierre group founder, “and this popularity was reflected at the Stocked Festival. We were honoured to contribute to a really worthwhile cause and delighted that such a substantial amount was raised.”
