Londis has announced that LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice will be its new national charity partner for the next two years. Under the partnership, Londis has vowed to help the Children’s Hospice fulfil their mission to provide essential personalised care to children with palliative care needs.

LauraLynn is the only specialist hospice in Ireland to care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. The children’s hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care to children with life-limiting conditions and gives respite and support to their families – at the hospice, in the community and in their own homes. The hospice also provides psychological support and counselling, residential family camps, a bereavement programme, music therapies and holistic therapies to the families.

Despite receiving only limited government funding to date, all of the palliative, support, transitional, crisis and respite care provided to the children and their families by LauraLynn is free of charge. The charity relies primarily on donations from the public.

Londis has pledged to fundraise for the charity through collection boxes in Londis stores nationwide, a donation on selected Own Brand products – including 10c on every bottle of Londis water sold – and a number of Retailer led initiatives, for which Londis Retailers are famous. To kickstart the fundraising, Londis Ireland has donated an initial €10,000.

“We want to achieve two things for LauraLynn,” said Conor Hayes, sales director, Londis. “We want to create awareness of their services and we want to fundraise as much money as possible through coordinated events that Londis Retailers are always enthusiastic about undertaking. We hope that our support will continue to help improve the quality of the lives of those children LauraLynn supports. The Londis Retailers have a strong tradition of going over and above for our charity partners and while we are curtailed in what we can do in the short term because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are already looking forward to enacting a number of initiatives to raise funds once restrictions allow.”

LauraLynn’s mission is to provide a community of care that delivers evidence-based, personalised services to children with palliative care needs, complex care needs and complex disabilities, while also providing family support services and a home to our residents where quality-of-life is paramount.

“All of us at LauraLynn are absolutely thrilled and honoured to be the Charity Partner for Londis for the next two years,” said Gillian Neary, marketing manager of LauraLynn Children’s Hospice. “This partnership is so special, as it brings to life our values of Compassion, Collaboration and Excellence and our goal to enhance and expand our Community of Care. LauraLynn provides care and supports to children and their families from every pocket of the country and Londis stores and their customers are at the heart of so many of these communities.

“I just want to thank the retailers who voted for us to be their charity partner and to all their staff and customers for getting behind LauraLynn. The awareness and funds raised throughout this partnership is going to be incredible and will allow LauraLynn to continue to provide vital care and supports to children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the country.’’
