Lidl partners with Buymie for online delivery service

Lidl has announced a new parntership with Buymie, an Irish firm providing personalised online grocery delivery in the Dublin area. The new service will offer Lidl customers an online delivery option for the first time, which Buymie will be able to fulfil in as little as one hour. Customers will also have the option of delivery in two or three-hour windows, as well as the capability to order groceries for delivery up to a week in advance. The Lidl/Buymie app will also allow customers to proffer notes on specific details regarding their orders.
This Dublin-wide expansion follows a succesful pilot period in selected areas during 2018.
Speaking at the announcement of the service, Alan Stewart, head of e-commerce at Lidl Ireland said that customer experience, quality and value are at the forefront of the Lidl and Buymie partnership. “Buymie allows us to provides a real differentiator in the online grocery delivery market,” Stewart said, “by ensuring fast delivery and a premium personal shopper experience through Buymie.
“We anticipate that the combination of rapid delivery, personalised service, and quality produce will provide a market-leading service,” he added.
Buymie was co-founded by CEO Devan Hughes, who said that his team and Lidl have been working on the project for months, to develop a “fully integrated” premium experience for Lidl customers. “This partnership is the first of its kind in Ireland,” Hughes said, “and has truly raised the bar for the entire industry.
“Given the success and speed of adoption we saw during our pilot,” he said, “we are tremendously excited to see this parternship expand.”
Customers can download the free Buymie app for iOS or Android devices for free. The delivery fee is €6.99 for delivery within one hour, with two hour and three hour delivery options costing €4.99 and €3.99 respectively, while the order is subject to a platform fee to cover the personal shopping service. Delivery on orders over €100 is free.
