Lidl has announced that it will open two new stores in Dublin and Westmeath this week, creating 63 new positions across both stores. These latest openings will bring the total number of Lidl stores in Ireland to 143 and the number of employees to over 3,900.

The two new stores, located in Omni, Santry and on Patrick Street, Mullingar, will officially open for business today (Thursday, 11December).

As part of its extensive expansion and modernisation programme, Lidl has opened a further four new stores across the country over the past year, including stores in Cork city centre and Clonakilty, Letterkenny and Doughiska, Co. Galway. 2014 also saw an additional nine Lidl stores around Ireland undergo extensive refurbishments.

Speaking about the openings, Aoife Clarke, head of Communications, Lidl Ireland, commented: “The excitement is building as we prepare to open our two new stores in Dublin and Westmeath, just in time for Christmas. These new openings bring to 143 the number of Lidl stores in Ireland. And, 63 new jobs have also been created across both stores, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to creating local employment and providing the Irish public with top quality products at the most competitive prices.”

Each new store boasts a new look, ultra-modern design and an innovative new baking facility which will turn out affordable, artisan breads from the minute the store opens until it closes at night. Opening celebrations at both stores include special offers on both food and non-food products; in-store sampling of a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas and a visit from Lidl brand ambassador and star of RTE’s Taste of Success, Paul Flynn.

Lidl currently work with 180 Irish suppliers.
