Children and families affected by cancer are set to benefit from a fundraising challenge that will see Tom Keogh, founder of Keogh’s Farm, join Ireland rugby legend Rory Best on a 235-mile / 378km walk around the island of Ireland this September in support of Cancer Fund for Children.

Cancer Fund for Children is an all-island charity that provides emotional, social and therapeutic support to children, young people and families impacted by cancer.

As part of its support of the Rory’s Miles to Mayo ─ the Trilogy initiative, Keogh’s has released a limited-edition batch of its award-winning Mature Irish Cheese & Onion crisps featuring the Cancer Fund for Children’s daisy logo.

Charity’s vital services

The promotion aims to spread awareness of the charity’s vital services, with the Cancer Fund for Children logo appearing on one million bags.

A scannable QR code on the back of bags leads to information on the charity and how people can get behind them.

From 12-20 September, for the Rory’s Miles to Mayo ─ the Trilogy challenge, Tom Keogh, along with several business leaders, will be captained by Rory Best as they walk nine marathons in nine days, covering over 235 miles / 378km.

The participants will walk around 50,000 steps daily starting from Derry/Londonderry, travelling through Belfast, Dublin, Kildare, Carlow, Cork, Limerick and Galway before finishing in Cong, Co. Mayo.

Cong is the location of Cancer Fund for Children’s second Daisy Lodge therapeutic short break centre, currently under construction and due to open in 2027.

Day three of the Rory’s Miles to Mayo ─ the Trilogy challenge on Monday, 14 September will finish at Keogh’s family farm in Oldtown in north Co Dublin, following its 26.2 mile / 42km route from the Aviva Stadium that morning.

This is Tom Keogh’s second physical fundraiser for Cancer Fund for Children, having last year taken on the 26 Mountains to Mayo challenge, which saw him climb the highest point in each county in Ireland, helping raise over €1.8 million for the all-island charity.

Speaking about the upcoming challenge, Tom Keogh, founder and managing director of Keogh’s Farm, said: “Keogh’s Farm is very proud to play a role in highlighting the wonderful work that Cancer Fund for Children does in supporting children, families and young people across the island of Ireland facing the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis.

“Taking part in last year’s 26 Mountains to Mayo challenge was an incredibly fulfilling experience for me, so I jumped at the chance to join Rory Best for this September’s Rory’s Miles to Mayo ─ the Trilogy walk.

“Though the nine-day route will be physically and mentally testing, I’m looking forward to tackling it together with Rory and the other participants, while raising vital funds to help those going through very tough times.”

Commenting on the Keogh’s Farm promotion, Phil Alexander, CEO of Cancer Fund for Children, said: “We are very grateful to Keogh’s Farm for rolling out this exciting initiative and for Tom Keogh’s continued support for Cancer Fund for Children as he sets out to tackle another fundraising challenge.

“By generously donating their time, support and boundless energy, Tom, together with all the business leader participants, will help us to continue to provide vital services for children, young people and families affected by cancer across the island.”

Look out for Keogh’s Mature Irish Cheese & Onion crisps with the Cancer Fund for Children daisy logo now on sale across the island of Ireland.
