An RGDATA delegation led by president Colin Fee with members from all over the country made an impassioned plea to the Fianna Fail parliamentary party to support immediate interventions to assist local food retailers to manage escalating wage bills.

Independent retailers told Fianna Fail ministers, TDs and senators that the cumulative impact of all the new Government policies on wages, sick pay and the additional public holiday was causing huge stress in the sector.

Community based convenience store and supermarket owners operate in an extremely competitive market with very tight margins and they need assistance to fund the introduction of all the measures in such a short timeframe, RGDATA told the meeting.
