Takeover talks between Dunnes Stores and stylish and upmarket chain Donnybrook Fair have ended, according to reports. It emerged earlier this year that Dunnes Stores was seeking to buy out family-owned Donnybrook Fair, despite initially being denied by owner Joe Doyle. However, according to The Irish Times, that deal is now off after the two parties could not agree on a price for the business, which has six stores in Dublin and Wicklow.

Donnybrook Fair employs around 240 people, and has annual sales of approximately €27m. The group runs a cookery school at its flagship store in Donnybrook, Dublin, and owns a stake in artisan producer, Morehampton Foods.

No comment was issued by either party regarding the deal breakdown, though speculation has turned to whether another grocery giant will turn its eye to Donnybrook Fair. It is a strong brand with potential for expansion, so watch this space.
