Shoppers at Selfridges in London, one of the UK’s most prestigious retailers, are now enjoying instant rice noodles courtesy of Coleraine chef and entrepreneur Thana Thammavongsa.

Following an approach from Selfridges’ buyers earlier this year, three of Thana’s healthy noodle varieties have now gone on sale at the leading London store.

Thana’s brand, Whoosh, started off as an event catering business in 2008, servicing corporate and private clients across Northern Ireland.

In February 2013, the brand opened its Thai and Vietnamese Street Food café in Coleraine and has since gained a reputation for its fresh selection of healthy street food.

Last year, Whoosh introduced its own brand of instant noodle pots, aimed at the food-on-the-go retail markets.

Thammavongsa was delighted when Selfridges in London saw her story on social media and made an enquiry.

“We have worked tirelessly over the years to build a business that would allow us to share our culture and love of food,” she said.

“Our goal was to recreate the essence of our most cherished Thai and Vietnamese street food dishes, passed down through family recipes. Having our pots featured in a landmark like Selfridges is a dream come true.

“A lot of time has been spent sourcing the best natural ingredients for this new product range and all our pots are produced on our premises here in Coleraine.

“We are delighted to see our products in Selfridges and in-store sampling sessions have so far been very successful,” she added.

Whoosh’s three varieties of instant rice noodles – Thai Red Curry, Thai Tom Yum and Vietnamese Curry – are currently available to purchase from their own street food café in Coleraine, as well as from 25 locations across Northern Ireland.

The company is currently working on placing the noodle range in shops across the Republic Ireland.
