Aldi begins construction on new €7m Galway store
Development will see investment of €7 million into the local area and the creation of 30 permanent jobs

Work has commenced on the construction of Aldi’s new Mountbellew store, which will create up to 30 new permanent jobs to Mountbellew, Co Galway. The new store is expected to open next year.
The development on College Road, Mountbellew will see investment of €7 million into the local area.
The new environmentally friendly store will be powered by 100% renewable electricity and will be constructed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh design. The 1,315sqm store will feature 120 car parking spaces and 10 bike parking spaces, and Aldi will also be investing in the future of Mountbellew through the provision of four electric vehicle charging points.
The store is part of a larger development being built by Galway-based Cahermorris Developments which includes a filling station and residential development.
Commenting, Colin Breslin, Aldi regional managing director said: “We are delighted to break ground at the site of our new Mountbellew store and we can’t wait to bring our amazing range of groceries to even more customers. The store will also provide further opportunities for local food and drink producers to work with Aldi. Last year, we sourced €28 million of locally produced food and drink from our Co. Galway based suppliers.”
Aldi currently operate nine stores in County Galway and have recently received planning permission for a store on Old Monivea Road, Ballybrit opening in Autumn 2023. Aldi’s Galway stores are deeply rooted in the local community, having donated over 41,000 meals to charity to date through its partnership with FoodCloud. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with MADRA Dog Rescue and Gort Cancer Support just some of the many local charities that have availed of the €500 bursary grant in recent years.
