Aldi Ireland has agreed to a new two-year deal with Carlow-based Codd Mushrooms that will see the business provide €9m worth of mushrooms to Aldi stores.

Under the new contract, Codd Mushrooms will supply Aldi’s 133 Irish stores with 13.3m packs of mushrooms, representing a volume growth of 600% between Aldi and the family-run business who first began supplying Aldi in April 2007.

Based in Tullow, Co. Carlow, the Codd family has been growing mushrooms on their farm since 1989. The security provided by the partnership with Aldi provides the support Codd Mushrooms need to invest in completing an ambitious expansion project comprising of a new dispatch fridge and loading area, as well as six additional growing rooms.

“The certainty provided by our partnership with Aldi has helped us in not only growing our business, but in developing a world-class production facility here in Tullow,” said Leslie Codd, managing director of Codd Mushrooms.

“This year alone we have been able to employ an additional ten new full-time members of staff, bringing the number on our team to 250,” Codd added. “We now plan to continue our growth into 2020 – secure in the knowledge that we have Aldi’s support.”
