The CSNA recently reached out to the Tobacco Control office about the lack of an EFT payment option.

It is pleased to share the response it received from the office below.

The CSNA advises members to hold off on applying for your tobacco or vaping license (or both, if you wish) until the end of July.

Vaping license

Additionally, it would like to remind members that if you decide against applying for a vaping license, you will be prohibited from selling any vaping products after 2 August.

Therefore, it would suggest that you consider selling off any existing inventory or returning any unused stock to your supplier before 2 August.

‘Thank you for your email. At present, credit card is the only payment method available on the portal for purchasing tobacco licences.

‘Following user feedback, we are working with our software provider to introduce an electronic funds transfer (EFT) payment option.

‘We have noted your request and email address.

‘You will receive an update as soon as the additional payment method becomes available, and you will then be able to proceed with your applications.

‘Local PEHO offices are aware of this pending development and have access to the payment‑pending list.

‘There is no issue with applications remaining in a payment‑pending state at this time.

‘Important timeline information for licence applications:

  • Retailers registered with the HSE’s NRTR before 2 February 2026 may continue to sell tobacco products until 1 August 2026, after which a licence is required.
  • Retailers selling nicotine inhaling products before 2 February 2026 may continue until 1 August 2026, after which a licence is required.’
