Explosion destroys Applegreen Service Station in Co. Donegal

An explosion occurred at the Applegreen Service Station on the outskirts of the village of Creeslough just after 3pm.
There are reports that a number of people have been seriously injured and ambulances are at the scene.
Donegal independent councillor John O’Donnell said his understanding was that the incident was caused by a gas explosion.
Speaking to BBC Radio Ulster’s Evening Extra programme, he said: “I am following emergency services here through Kilmacrennan on the way to Creeslough, there are more and more emergency services at the scene.”
“A lot of people very seriously injured, we haven’t heard numbers yet,” he said.
The Emergency Services are being supported by The Irish Coast Guard’s Sligo based Helicopter Rescue 118 and the Mulroy Coast Guard team are assisting the operation.
The NI Air Ambulance and paramedics from Northern Ireland have also been sent to assist ROI emergency services.
Roads into the village have been cordoned off, while Letterkenny General Hospital has implemented emergency protocol and is bracing for multiple casualties.
A number of cars have been damaged as a result of falling debris, and the main part of the building which also contains apartments has been severely damaged.
The Irish Independent also reported several people are understood to be trapped.
A spokesperson for Applegreen issued the following statement: “Applegreen is aware of a serious incident at its dealer-operated location at Creeslough in Co Donegal.
“Emergency services are on the scene and are dealing with the incident.”
