Aldi Ireland has agreed a new €3 million deal with Dublin-based Pizza Sorrento to supply all its 143 Irish stores. The new contract will see Pizza Sorrento supply Aldi with over 2,500,000 handmade Original and Sourdough Twin Pack Pizza Bases over the next two years.

The agreement follows a successful product trial in Aldi’s Leinster and Ulster stores beginning last April. Both pizza bases proved a hit with shoppers and will now be available nationally in Aldi’s stores.

Based in East Wall, Dublin, Pizza Sorrento was set up in 2012 by Giorgio Lisi and Stephen Carr. After learning his trade in the family bakery in Sorrento, Italy, Giorgio came to Ireland with the aspiration of setting up his own baking company. Pizza Sorrento now creates authentic Italian stone-baked pizza bases and pizza sauces based on his own family recipes.

The new Aldi partnership has resulted in the creation of two new roles at Pizza Sorrento, adding to its team of 13. It has also enabled the company to invest in bespoke machinery, including a new packaging machine.

Pizza Sorrento reports it has seen production levels rise by 30% since it began working with Aldi.

“Pizza Sorrento is testament to the fantastic quality of innovative products being developed by food and drink producers across Ireland,” said John Curtin, Aldi group buying director.

“At Aldi we are committed to providing our customers with access to the very best in Irish produced food, while supporting small and medium producers,” Curtin added.

Giorgio Lisi, co-founder of Sorrento Pizza, described the listing as a “huge achievement”.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our business, especially during such a challenging time due to Covid-19,” Lisi said. “From day one, it has been our goal to supply good quality, authentic products nationwide, and we are now able to achieve this with Aldi.”
