Aldi has begun construction of its new €4.5m Project Fresh Kinnegad store. Located on the Dublin Road, the new store will take approximately six months to build with an estimated 15 new jobs to be created when the store opens.

The development is part of Aldi’s €160m Irish store network investment programme. Once completed, the store floor-space will stand at 1,254m². Powered by 100% green electricity, the development will be professionally landscaped, with 90 free car parking spaces available for customers.

The construction of the store will be managed by Glebe Builders, with up to 80 jobs created during its building phase,

“We are really excited to turn the sod on the construction of our new Kinnegad store,” said Donald Mackay, managing director, Aldi Naas Region.

“Our commitment to our customers is we will never be beaten on price and will always provide the best value,” he added. “Our Swap and Save campaign continues into 2019 and the goal of this campaign is to remind shoppers about the saving that can be generated by swapping their weekly shop to Aldi.”

Aldi has become an established part of Westmeath’s retail landscape, operating stores in Athlone and Mullingar (Green Road and Dublin Road). These stores have donated over 40,000 meals of surplus food to local charities, which equates to over €55,000 in savings for partner charities in Westmeath.

The stores also take part in Aldi’s Community Grants network, with Friends of Regional Hospital Mullingar, the ISPCA, and RNLI Lough Ree Lifeboat Station availing of the €500 bursary grant in recent times.
