Londis has come up with a novel way of raising funds for a great cause. The proceeds from the Londis ‘Jump for Joy’ campaign will be donated to Pieta House, a service that provides free therapeutic support for people who are in suicidal distress and those who engage in self-harm.

Irish international football legend Paul McGrath helped launch the initiative, which will take place on Saturday 14 May at The Irish Parachute Club, in Clonbullogue, Co Offaly.

Londis retailer John Roche in Doneraile, County Cork was the instigator of this initiative. Having helped raise over €20,000 for Pieta House over the last two years through a series of sponsored walks, he decided to go one step further and carry out a parachute jump.

“This year we are getting a bit more adventurous enlisting the help of fellow retailers and BWG Foods head office staff to take part in a sponsored parachute jump on Saturday 14 May. Pieta House is an important service to have in the community and we hope that proceeds from this event will help some people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives,” Roche said.

Thirteen Londis stores have signed up to ‘Jump for Joy’ with a total of 32 jumpers agreeing to parachute for Pieta, including staff from BWG Foods (owners and operators of the Londis brand) Head Office in Dublin. Each person must raise €400 for Pieta House, which means Londis will be donating a minimum of €12,000 with the hope much more will be raised, through events such as a coffee morning and a jersey day taking place in the run up to the main event.

Speaking about the planned event, Conor Hayes, Londis sales director said it is “creating a buzz in the stores that are participating” and that Londis is “thrilled to be part of such a worthy cause”.
