Grogan & Brown Artisan Butchers in Loughboy, Kilkenny, has been named Craft Butcher Shop of the Year by the Associated Craft Butchers of Ireland (ACBI) at the 2015 Food & Hospitality Ireland event currently taking place at Citywest in Dublin. The award was presented by the Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Tom Hayes TD.

Grogan & Brown, which was established in 2013 by butchers Jonathan Brown and Dermot Grogan, also claimed the award for Best in High Street at the annual Craft Butchers Awards.

John Hickey, CEO of the ACBI, said that previous winners of the award had greatly benefitted from it. “There’s a great deal of prestige in being named the best craft butchers’ shop in Ireland,” he said, “and each of our entrants puts a great deal of effort in to making sure their store is the best.

“The standard gets higher every year and you have to be on top of your game to even get in to the top 20,” he added.

Meanwhile, O’Gorman’s Butchers of Casteldermot, Co. Kildare, won Best in Rural at the awards ceremony, while the Best in Shopping Centre title was awarded to O’Brien’s Butchers in Kilkenny Shopping Centre, Loughboy.
