“The Pioneers of Excellence” and “The Business Innovators that will take Ireland to greater heights of Quality and Excellence.” These are just some of the accolades used to describe the 2014 winners of The National Q Mark Awards held recently at Dublin’s Double Tree by Hilton Hotel.

Known as The Oscars of Business Excellence, the scale and significance of this prestigious event was highlighted by the broad range of industries represented from all over Ireland. Hospitals, credit unions, and local stores went head to head with engineering companies, service operators and the best in the food industry in their bid to be recognised as businesses that consistently create new operating benchmarks in order to best serve the Irish consumer.

The big award winners on the night included Glanmore Foods which was awarded the title of ‘National Champions of The Q Mark for Hygiene and Food Safety for the second year in a row, Roadbridge won the title of National champions of The Q Mark for Quality Management Systems, and the Caulfield Supermarket Group was named Best Business Group of the Year.

The Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, who attended this year’s National Q Mark Awards, said: “It is great to see so many Irish businesses from all parts of the country making high standards a key part of their offering to customers.”

A National Q Mark Award is known to be one of the most difficult business accolades to win as all finalists must engage with a standard that allows them to review 100% of their processes and procedures 100% of the time, thereby guaranteeing that they provide the highest standards of quality and excellence.

An unexpected surprise on the night was the announcement of The EIQA Lifetime Achievement Award which was bestowed on John Darcy Carroll for his dynamic approach to quality in the catering and hospitality industry over the last 40 years.
