Mars has announced the appointment of company veteran Bill Heague as general manager of the Irish operation. A newcomer to Ireland, Heague will lead a team of 90 associates in bringing the company’s brands to market – most of which are household names in confectionery, petfood, chewing gum and more. In a statement, the company said Heague’s objective will be “driving value for shareholders while playing a role in public policy for the industry”.

Bill Heague has been with Mars Foods for more than 10 years, having previously led teams in Australia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He joins the Irish team coming from a market director position in the Czech Republic, where he led the integration of the Mars and Wrigley businesses.

“I am delighted to have made the move to Ireland, and to this great team,” Heague said regarding the appointment. “I’m looking forward to bringing a lot of value to our customers as well as a fresh approach to my colleagues. Initially I want to focus on listening to the team, gaining from their insights and exploring the challenges and opportunities facing our industry at the moment.

“I’m particularly interested in ensuring the Mars Ireland business is taking its place on the international stage to ensure sustainability and healthy eating targets are met,” he added. “I am confident that the future is bright for Mars in Ireland.”
