BWG proudly announced the opening of its 100th new look XL Stop & Shop, in Rathmore, Co Kerry. Of its 132 stores trading under the banner 102 are now sporting the new image, with the remaining “old image” stores awaiting conversion. There are currently plans to revamp a further nine shops in 2009.

According to BWG, The XL Group “continues to gain traction in the convenience retail space,” recording strong growth in 2008 with the addition of 35 new stores and an increase of 35% in central billing sales. XL Stop & Shop will continue to expand next year with 10 more stores due to open in the first quarter of 2009.

First launched in 1997, XL Stop & Shop began its store revamp programme in 2006, which included re-branding, new colour schemes, shelving and display areas, signage, key category design, counter areas, point of sale and uniforms. Customer promotions remain a big part of the XL marketing strategy and in December the group will launch a national promotion for all new image stores; a draw to win a Nissan Qashqai 1.5SE when they spend a minimum of €10.
