SuperValu says fridges in 13 stores hit by cyber attack
2 November 2026
Refrigeration systems at 13 SuperValu stores have been hit amid a wider European wave of cyber attacks on grocery chains according to an article from the Irish Independent.
Musgrave Group, which owns SuperValu, has confirmed an incident at stores in Ireland today, saying it became aware of the issue immediately.
“The incident is limited to a specific model of refrigeration. Our monitoring systems alerted us to the issue, and we took immediate action,” Musgrave said.
“As a precaution, chilled and frozen products in the affected stores have been removed from sale, and all other products remain available as normal.”
Elsewhere, European supermarket chain Ahold Delhaize said an “IT incident” had hit fridges and freezers in dozens of its supermarkets in Belgium and Luxembourg.
Last month, the same retailer reported an earlier cybersecurity incident to the Dutch police. At around the same time, a cyberattack in France caused refrigerators and freezers at hundreds of stores to heat up to 50C sparking fires and spoiling food.
“Customer safety is our first priority, and customers can be confident that products on sale in our stores have been stored at safe temperatures,” it said.
“We are working closely with the suppliers of the affected refrigeration equipment and with cybersecurity specialists to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.”
