Spar Kinlough sells €11 million Lotto ticket

New Zealand wine exports up 10% New Zealand’s wine industry is well on track to reach its target of $2 billion of exports by 2020, according to Chair of New Zealand Winegrowers, Steve Green. New Zealand Winegrowers’ Annual Report shows exports have risen 10% in the last year, to just under $1.6 billion. This is the 21st consecutive year the industry has experienced significant export growth. “The on-going progress towards the $2 billion goal is founded on our reputation as a wine exporter of the first rank, known for crafting and marketing distinctively New Zealand, high quality, high value wines,” said Mr Green. “This continued strong performance is testament to underlying market and consumer demand for our wines in key markets.” With demand strong the improved supply from Vintage 2016 is expected to lift export volumes by a further 10% over the next 12 months. A Spar retailer from Kinlough, Co Leitrim sold the winning Lotto ticket at the weekend.

Noel McGowan who owns McGowan’s Spar shop in Kinlough says it is still unknown who the lucky person is that has scooped over €11 million in the weekend draw.

“We are absolutely delighted for the winner. We would like to wish them the best of luck and we hope that they enjoy their good fortune. It has created a great buzz for the locality,” said McGowan.

Kinlough has a population of just over 350 people and there is still plenty of speculation as to who might have won the €11,179,621 fortune.

“Everyone is checking their tickets and wondering who it is but no one knows yet,” said McGowan. “There’s lots of rumours and speculation. We’ve no idea yet. There were lots of passersby on Saturday.”

This part of the country receives hundreds of tourists during the summer months with the Donegal town of Bundoran just a few kilometres away so there were a lot of extra people in the area over the weekend meaning the winner of the jackpot could have been a holiday maker.

The winning numbers were 10, 11, 12, 15, 18 and 19.

This is not the first time that Noel McGowan has sold winning Lotto tickets at his Spar shop in the north Leitrim village with another jackpot of over €250,000 won last year.

“Last October we sold a Lotto Plus jackpot of €250,000 and 10 years ago there was a lotto jackpot of €3m with six winners, we sold two of those winners. They each got €225,000,” he explained.
