Tesco Ireland celebrated the opening of a new Tesco Express store on Pearse St. Dublin 2 on 13 February. The new store will create 16 jobs, with 8 staff coming off the Live Register. The Pearse Street store is the 24th Tesco Express store in Dublin, with the retailer now employing over 4,500 people in the capital and some 650 people in the city centre area.

Speaking about the launch, store manager Pamela Maxwell said: “The new store will feature value driven on-the-go food options and a store layout designed to make the shopping experience quick, simple and enjoyable.” Covering some 260 square meters of net retail floorspace, the new store has over 550 meters in length of shelving.

The St Andrew’s Resource Centre, Pearse Street Old Folks Association and St Vincent De Paul have been nominated as the first three local good causes to take part in the store’s first Tesco Community Fund initiative. Every six weeks, Tesco Express Pearse Street will donate €500 between three local good causes in its community. Customers will decide how the funding is shared by voting for their preferred cause in store. Up to 3,500 local good causes in Ireland will receive a donation through the Tesco Community Fund over the next year.

In addition, every day the Tesco Pearse Street store will donate any surplus foods to local charities in the area using the innovative FoodCloud app, ensuring that no good food goes to waste. Since launching its national partnership with FoodCloud in July, Tesco has rolled out FoodCloud to over 100 Tesco stores in 25 counties across Ireland. To date, the retailer has donated over 500,000 meals to local good causes across the country.
