Mr Price and The Rehab Group have won the people’s choice award at this year’s Charity Excellence Awards, after they entered a partnership to change the job landscape for people with disabilities nationwide.
Their initiative strives to make an impactful change by offering placements and jobs to students of the Rehab Group. Its success is measured in real job outcomes where people with disabilities get paid employment.
“It is an honour to have won such an award and we are more than delighted to have won it in the People’s Choice category as it shows how our innovative approach is impacting the lives of those who need it,” said Edel McSorley, Mr Price.
The aim of the partnership is to increase employment rates of people with disabilities in every county. In Ireland, a person with a disability is just over half as likely to be employed as a non-disabled peer, according to a study published by Ibec. Ireland’s rate of employment amongst people with disabilities the fourth lowest in Europe.
“Mr Price and The Rehab group are innovative change-makers in this space,” said Ann Marie McDonnell, head of business development and service design at The Rehab Group. “Our partnership is pragmatic and impact orientated.”
Since the partnership began, 53 people with disabilities have secured full or part-time employment with Mr Price. 47 staff have participated in training to promote disability inclusive practices during the hiring process, on-boarding process and ensuring in-work supports. Mr Price and the Rehab Group are developing practice leaders in disability inclusion in the workplace.
