Lidl Ireland announced as Official Fresh Food Partner of Parkrun

Lidl Ireland has partnered with Parkrun to become the Official Fresh Food Partner for the free-of-charge, family friendly, community event which is held in parks and open spaces around the world every weekend.

The new three-year partnership will see the retailer support Parkrun and provide exclusive coupons and free products to Parkrunners and volunteers every week via the Lidl Plus App. The unique coupon codes will be communicated via the Parkrun newsletter on a weekly basis.

Local Parkrun events are hosted in over 100 locations around Ireland to encourage people to add physical activity to their weekly routine.

Lidl says it plans to attend every single Parkrun location in Ireland over the course of the partnership to distribute fresh fruit, refreshments and their exclusive Lidl x Parkrun t-shirts which are sure to be a collector’s item for Parkrunners.

Lidl’s investment helps to keep parkrun free for everyone, and the partnership forms part of the retailer’s ‘Lidl Steps to a better tomorrow’ commitment which encompasses all of its CSR initiatives and “aims to create a better, more sustainable future for customers, communities and the world”.

Joe Mooney, senior partnerships manager at Lidl Ireland said the group focuses on supporting causes that colleagues and customers are invested in and care about. “As a result of their input and feedback,” he said, “we are delighted to announce that Lidl is now the Official Fresh Food Partner of parkrun in Ireland. We want to give you a fresh way to get your healthy lifestyle up and running by combining the freshest fruit and veg with the most inclusive form of community exercise – the classic Parkrun. We pride ourselves on offering the freshest and most affordable produce on the market and aim to help the wider public maintain a healthy diet and active lifestyle through our partnership with parkrun.”

Matt Shields, country manager for Parkrun Ireland said the partnership is “a natural fit,  highlighting the opportunity for parkrunners to continue to make healthy choices outside of parkrun events. Eating healthily and getting active, whether that’s walking, jogging, running or volunteering, go hand-in-hand with making the world a healthier and happier place.”

Broadcaster Kathryn Thomas was also on hand at the launch to encourage everyone to get involved in their local Parkrun.
