The chain’s new Ballycullen store opened on 5 December and was followed by the new Terenure store which opened on Thursday, 12 December. These latest openings bring the total number of Lidl stores in Ireland to 138.

The opening of the two new stores comes as a welcome boost to their surrounding local economies with it reported that over 200 people applied for the 40 positions on offer.

The retailer will also be launching its new toy range that will be on special offer in stores across the country this week. The range of toys includes a GoClever tablet for €99.99, a play kitchen for €34.99, a toy helicopter for €24.99, a remote control car for €28.99 and a colour-in playhouse for €9.99 which featured on the Late Late Toy Show.

A number of children from Lidl’s charity partner Barretstown tested the toy range before they were put on sale. Lidl has also made a toy donation to Barretstown for Christmas as well as mobilising it’s over 3,000 employees across Ireland to raise much needed funds for the children’s charity.

The festive season has already proved busy for the discount chain with the recent launch of its 2013 Christmas ad which highlights the group’s Deluxe range of products. Also the group has launched recipe cards containing Brand Ambassador Paul Flynn’s Christmas recipes in stores.
