Ireland’s oldest bread company Johnston, Mooney & O’Brien presented a cheque for €17,500 to Temple Street Children’s University Hospital this week. The funds raised will go towards the redevelopment of St Joseph’s Ward or The Top Flat, as it is fondly known in the hospital.

The donation made comes as a result of funds raised by "When the world was yours and mine" song downloads on iTunes.

The song, written by Kevin Breathnach and Billy Larkin and performed by Mark Kilbride, became hugely popular with people after it was featured on recent Johnston Mooney & O’Brien TV advertising celebrating its 175 year history.

Following the huge public interest, Johnston Mooney & O’Brien made the song available to download with all proceeds going to Temple Street, after Breathnach, Larkin and Kilbride waved any royalty fees associated with the song.

St Joseph’s Ward is one of the busiest wards in Temple Street, where children with serious injuries come and children with life limiting illnesses call home.

Speaking of the donation Denise Fitzgerald, chief executive officer, Temple Street, said: "We would like to sincerely thank Johnston Mooney & O’Brien, as well as the singer and songwriters. This donation will go a long way towards redeveloping St Joseph’s Ward." This will be the first major refurbishment of St Joseph’s Ward in 60 years.
