The Irish team at the Global Finals of the Captain Morgan Cup in South Africa ended up taking home the trophy recently after defeating nine other nations along the way.
Ireland’s team of four Maynooth PhD students and housemates – Team Captain Shane Lynn (Celbridge Co Kildare), Lorcan Walshe (Staplestown, Co Carlow), Kevin Sweeney (Kilcloon, Co Meath) and Ciaran Pollard (Kimmage, Dublin) – was chosen to represent Ireland in the global finals after winning the national Captain’s Cup competition which ran on the Captain Morgan Ireland facebook page last April and May.
Teams from 10 countries across the world enjoyed the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete against each other in the global final. The competition, hosted by Captain Morgan himself, saw each team from countries as far afield as Mexico and Austria travel to South Africa to participate in a series of challenges designed to test their team spirit, good humour, adventurous nature and reveal the ‘Captain’ in them.
