Reports have emerged that Glanbia may expand its nutritionals division, possibly through acquisition, on account of its strong performance during the downturn. The Nutritionals component of the multinational food giant consists of three separate businesses which deliver nutritional ingredients, premixes and vitamin and mineral products to businesses and consumers.

Last month the group released a statement saying that its international cheese and nutritionals arms had performed well. In particular “a good result” from nutritionals, along with a “robust performance” from US cheese are expected to deliver a “modest improvement” in operating profit and margin, with operating margin expected to exceed 10% for the full year, despite a decline for consumer products.

The report of further expansion of the nutritionals business, allegedly emanating from a Glanbia executive, follows news last month that Seltzer is to rebrand under the Glanbia Nutririonals (Customised Solutions) banner. Seltzer was acquired by the ingredients maker in 2006.

Glanbia Nutritionals also grew its operation earlier this year when it opened a new 83,000 sq m state-of-the-art vitamin and mineral premix facility in Missouri, USA. The group said the investment was in-line with “rising and enduring demand for multifunctional products.”
