Tesco Ireland will have a special delivery of giant avocados known as Avozillas in a select number of stores from Friday.  There is a limited supply of these giant avocados, which are up to six times the size of a standard avocado, so avocado fans are encouraged to snap them up quickly this weekend from participating stores while stocks last.

Tesco Ireland Fresh food buyer Denise Foley commented “This limited stock of Avozillas is exclusive to Tesco and is being introduced following a successful trial in UK stores last year. They are extremely rare and come from just four trees grown by one of the world’s biggest suppliers of avocados in South Africa. Deliveries will be going into a select number of stores on Friday morning and will be available this weekend while stocks last.”

Avozillas are naturally produced and not genetically modified. Just four trees produce the Avozilla supply in the lush forest outside of Modjadjiskloof, Limpopo, South Africa. The Avozilla is a cross between two types of avocado; the West Indian and Guatemalen varieties. As these trees are not available for commercial sale, there is very limited supply of the fruit at the moment so avocado fans are encouraged to pop into one of the participating Tesco stores while stocks last to avoid disappointment.
