Last month Flahavan’s sales and marketing director, John Noonan was given the Marketer of the Year 2009 award by Marketing.ie, for overseeing the successful strategic repositioning of the brand in the Irish breakfast cereals market.

Noonan, who has been with the company since 1997, recruited new consumers as a principal objective of this work, and oversaw vital NPD with the introduction of a new range of Organic consumer products as well as Quick Oats, the company’s convenience offering. Today Flahavans has 73.7% of the new Organic oat market and 86.4% of the newly emerged convenience segment.

In addition, as part of the repositioning of Flahavan’s, Noonan progressed its brand image in line with changing consumer needs by strengthening its proposition in terms of the compelling health benefits associated with oats. He recognised that international trends in health and oats would filter through to the Irish consumer, which resulted in double-digit growth over a number of years in the category.

Commenting on the win, Noonan said: “I am greatly honoured to receive this prestigious award. The last 10 years has been an exciting time for all at Flahavan’s. We have seen a dramatic transformation in the company, brand portfolio and our relationship with consumers. We are very proud to be an Irish indigenous manufacturing company and will continue to strive to produce brands that use Irish oats and other quality locally sourced raw materials.”
