SantaSuperValu retailer Barry Collins, in Carrigaline, Co Cork, celebrated the beginning of Christmas for local customers with ‘A Taste of Christmas’ food and wine fair, on 7 December.

The evening provided a showcase for local specialty foods and demonstrations of creative seasonal cooking by star cook and well-known artisan and family food producer, Avril Allshire, of Rosscarbery Recipes and Love Irish Foods. Customers were treated to an in-store cookery demonstration of how to prepare an ‘alternative Christmas dinner’, along with some recipes and tips on getting the most quality and value for Christmas.

Accompanying Allshire were a wide variety of artisan food producers from Carrigaline and West Cork, such as award-winning Hodgins Sausages, Carrigaline Cheese, Shellfish De la Mer, Moyle salads and Mrs Birds Brown bread, who came to display the very best of local produce and offered their advice.

To compliment the food displays, the experts from Barry Collins’ SuperValu were on hand to advise on all aspects of menu planning and selecting wines, while David Collins and Theresa Morgan, off-licence manager, offered a tutored wine tasting.
