The Group, with outlets in Dublin, London and New York, has just dispatched its first 40-foot container order to the US for its range of beers in what will be a regular shipment, according to Porterhouse Group Director Oliver Hughes.

“These shipments are being handled by B United, a specialist beer importer in the US for a range of specialist beer brands,” he told Drinks Industry Ireland.

Craft beers such as those brewed by the Porterhouse Group are especially prevalent in New York.

Larger brewers such as SAB Miller believe that within the next five years, 50 per cent of beers sold in the US will be either imported or craft beers.

However Oliver Hughes has discounted the idea that it may be worth setting up a brewery Stateside in preparation for any predicted sales boom of craft beers.

“We dislike ‘brewed under licence’ products and we have a high regard for our heritage in beer-making,” he explained, “We also want to use Irish barley and provide work in Ireland rather than pay lip-service to the term ‘Ireland’. Ireland is a brand and should be protected,” he concluded.
