So said Diageo Ireland’s Stephanie Sheehan at the recent NOffLA ‘The 21st Century Consumer’ Seminar held in the Red Cow Moran Hotel in Dublin.

Other trends she mentioned included ‘second screen marketing’.  80% of users access twitter via a mobile device. 66% of them use twitter at home in front of the TV. Indeed 86% of mobile internet users use their devices while watching TV, according to Digital Buzz 2013 figures.

One in three users access twitter on their commute and one in four use it while shopping.

Stephanie concluded her presentation by offering the audience some useful thoughts in relation to social media and retail outlets:
“Do not discount facebook and twitter, it’s still where the masses are in Ireland… Consider local partnerships and potential advocates/ambassadors for your brand or store…. Be timely and relevant with what and when you’re pushing out messages… No matter what platform you’re on develop a unique position or tone of voice that gets you noticed… Put yourself in the consumers’ position. Would you care about the content you’re posting at the moment?”
