Four months after it was all but completely destroyed in a bizarre incident during the unprecedented snowfall earlier this year, the Lidl store in Fortunestown, Dublin, has reopened to the public. A multi-million euro refurbishment has taken place, offering what the company calls a “new and enhanced” shopping experience to loyal customers in the area.

The store has practically doubled in size, increaseing from 997sq m to 1698sq m, offering wider aisles, more tills and increased amenities for staff including a rest area and a training room. The car park has also increased in size by 50%.

The store also incorporates a range of measures to improve overall environmental impact. The site is powered by “green electricity”, plus it has a number of electric vehicle charging points – which the company says it plans to introduce to all stores for use by customers free-of-charge while they shop

Following the incident in March, Lidl said it’s first priority was staff. All existing staff members at the time were deployed to other Lidl stores in the area; they have returned to the Fortunestown store along with nine new recruits, all under the management of store manager Ruth Shanley.

“I want to extend our thanks to the loyal customer base in Fortunestown for their support over the past few months,” Shanley said. “We recognise that our service and the store’s team have been greatly missed by the local community, and we are delighted to welcome everyone back today.”

The grand reopening is being marked with a family fun weekend until Sunday 2nd, along with a range of special offers in-store planned for the coming weeks.
