Dealz and Pepco shoppers in Ireland raise over €10,000 in a single week for Barretstown charity

Dealz and Pepco customers have been praised for their remarkable generosity which is helping to improve the lives of seriously ill children from right across Ireland.
Through the Poundland Foundation, and in partnership with Pennies, customers have been given the opportunity to make micro donations at the tills of all Poundland, Dealz and Pepco stores throughout the UK and Ireland.
In a single week last month, big-hearted customers made Ireland the discount retailer’s most generous region in terms of donations and participation when it raised over £10,000 for Dealz’ and Pepco’s charity partner, Barretstown.
In total customers across Ireland raised an incredible €10,343.39 with the Carrickmines store raising the most with €528.14 collected, just ahead of Drogheda RP which totalled €506.29.
And underlining just how generous Dealz and Pepco shoppers are, a store in one of the most challenged areas of Dublin, Tallaght Belgarde saw almost one in four shoppers make a donation to charity.
Dealz and Pepco country operations manager, Olivia McLoughlin said she has been blown away by the amount raised however, the generosity of shoppers has not surprised her one bit.
“We are so proud to be able to support the wonderful work of Barretstown. To raise over €10,000 in just one week shows just how kind our customers are,” O’Loughlin said.
“We all know money is tight at the minute, but time and time again our shoppers think about the welfare of others. When you consider almost a quarter of customers at our Tallaght Belgarde store made donations, it shows just how much kindness there is in our communities.
“Barretstown does remarkable work helping seriously ill children and their families at free, specially designed camps and programmes. These are supported by 24-hour onsite medical and nursing care. All of the children and families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food and medical assistance are provided at no cost to the family, therefore it is vital that this work is supported through generous donations.
“I want to thank all of our customers who have contributed to this incredible charity and the remarkable work they do.”
In 2019, the retailer partnered with Pennies, a leading charity which embraces technology to grow micro-donations, to enable donations at their checkouts. Earlier this year the Dealz and Pepco empowered customers to make donations during contactless transactions.
Pennies worked closely with the teams at Dealz and Pepco to complete the work, making it effortless for customers to donate 25c at checkout – whether they pay by Chip and PIN or contactless.
In addition, Dealz and Pepco continue to work with Team Hope on the annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal that delivers gifts straight into the hands of children affected by poverty, and in stores throughout Ireland, teams are selling the Barretstown reindeer food for customers to purchase with funds going directly to the charity.
