The Convenience Stores & Newsagents Association (CSNA) is reminding members that the deadline for applying for a tobacco or vaping licence, or both, is Sunday, 2 August.

Retailers can apply for their licence here: https://ehonline.hse.ie/

If applicants experience any issues, they should contact the HSE using the relevant email address.

Payment can be made by card or by bank transfer (EFT).

Application notes

Before applying for a licence, retailers will need to have the following details ready:

  • Business owner details as they appear on Revenue documents
  • Tax Registration Number (TRN) issued by Revenue when registering for tax
  • Trading name (the name displayed over the premises)
  • Address of the premises
  • Website address if selling online

Applicants can apply if they:

  • Are aged 18 or over
  • Have a Tax Clearance Certificate from Revenue

Applicants cannot apply if they:

  • Have a licence suspended by court order
  • Are applying for a temporary or moveable premises, such as market stalls or festival stalls

Applicants will also need a National Environmental Health Service (NEHS) online portal account.

To apply:

  • Go to Tobacco Products and Nicotine Inhaling Products licences
  • Create the organisation
  • Submit the application(s)
  • Go to the shopping cart and pay

After applying

Applicants will receive a confirmation email after payment has been made.

The application will then be reviewed. If amendments are required, an email will be issued requesting changes through the portal.

The application can then be resubmitted.

If approved, applicants will receive an email and can download the licence from the Current Licences section of the portal.

The licence must be displayed at the point of sale. If products are sold online, the licence number must be displayed on the website.

Retailers must reapply annually if they continue to sell these products.

Any changes, such as a change of business ownership, must be notified to the HSE.
